Welcome to the Avon Boys Travel Basketball 2019-20 Season
Thank you very much to all who participated in the travel basketball tryouts last Thursday and Friday at AMS. All of the kids were attentive, respectful and played hard. The decision as to who made the various teams was a difficult one. To the kids that unfortunately did not make a travel team this season please consider the Avon Rec Department as a good option to keep playing basketball and to improve your game this winter. We hope to see you next year.
To the kids who made a team, congratulations and good luck this season. To those parents, we will be scheduling a meeting (tentatively) Tuesday October 15th at AMS from 5:30-7:30, this is a mandatory meeting where we will get your son's uniform size and number preference. At this meeting, you must:
(1) pay the $495 fee (via check made out to ABTBA or cash)
(2) bring a copy of your son's birth certificate
(3) bring a copy of one proof of residency (i.e. utility bill with home address on it)
(4) bring a CBTBL Code of Conduct signed by each player and at least one parent. Form to be sent by your coach later this week.
Relative to player eligibility, the ABTBA complies with the specific rules and processes of the leagues that we are a member of and compete in, the CBTBL and the NCC. The CBTBL rules expressly require that all players competing in their league must also be residents of the town they play for and there is no exception process to this CBTBL requirement. Pursuant to NCC league rules, they may allow on an exception basis for players to play on teams in their league where the player attends public school in the town but do not reside there. Where those situations arise, the ABTBA will petition the NCC league to allow such player(s) selected to Avon teams competing in the NCC to be allowed to play and an ABTBA board member will be in contact with impacted parents/players to keep them abreast of the status of that request.
